About Me
I'm an entrepreneur, investor and podcast host based in South Bend, Indiana.
I'm the founder and CEO of Alpha Dog Agency, which grew from a borrowed basement to serving over 100 clients nationwide from our Downtown South Bend headquarters.
My journey began in sports. I set state and national records in high school football and landed in the Kansas Sports Hall Of Fame record book, albeit in a tiny town and at a tiny school. I graduated with 12 other kids in a town of less than 150 people.
After graduating from Bethel University with a degree in Sports Management, I worked with Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins affiliates before moving into sports media, founding Five Wide Sports and writing for outlets including Bleacher Report and Football Nation.
The pivot to digital marketing came during my time at an international ad agency in New York. I was a genuinely bad employee at most of the jobs before that one, but there I discovered a passion for helping local businesses maximize their online presence.
That discovery brought me back to Indiana to launch Alpha Dog in 2013, supervised from a basement chair by a Min-Pin named Deuce. He's still the logo. You can read his story here.
Beyond the agency, I've founded or joined a handful of other ventures.
Point Guard University is a basketball training company that operates camps nationwide, along with free clinics in the South Bend and Chicago areas.
I'm a partner in Athletes Media Group, where I hosted the 'My First' podcast and somehow got to trade stories with pros like Terrell Owens, Penny Hardaway and Clyde Drexler.
I'm also an investor in Michiana Sports Cards and SnapLine Robots. The full lineup is on my Companies & Brands page.
I created the Marketing Minute 4 Dentists brand, a newsletter and podcast, read by thousands of dentists each week. I'm still not sure when I became the dental marketing guy but here we are.
I speak too. I've delivered keynotes at WixCon, Startup Moxie and the South Bend Entrepreneurship & Adversity Program, along with presentations for Chambers Of Commerce and national conferences. Everything you need to book me is on the Speaking page.
In 2020 I was recognized as a South Bend 40 Under 40 honoree. Giving back to my community matters to me. I volunteer with Heroes For Literacy, an after-school reading program for children, and sit on the boards of Regional Innovation & Startup Education (RISE) Entrepreneurship and the Hawkins Family Foundation.
When I'm not building businesses or speaking, I enjoy traveling, collecting sports cards and getting annually disappointed by the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
